Haino vs Rallizes, Haino vs Jacks
« on: January 19, 2009, 05:32:19 PM »
A couple of interesting Haino related gigs coming up over the next couple of months for those lucky enough to live in Tokyo:

On March 8, his trio with Doronco and Sami, both ex Rallizes, will be playing at Jam in Shinjuku. This is, I think, the third outing for this particular trio.

Even more intriguingly, on April 12, again at Jam, Haino will be playing with Yoshio Hayakawa of the Jacks. Two solo sets followed by a duo set. Pretty sure that these two have never played together before.

There's a lot of quality documentation appearing on Dime a Dozen, though I don't think either of the previous Haino/Doronco/Sami things have appeared there yet. Still, we can live in hope.

If anyone does have this, or hears wind of it, then I'd love a copy too.

I personnally got another Fushitsusha live marathon.
I would also be interested to get what was released by aRCHIVE as a bootleg.

OK....this might be a bit off-topic and get me lambasted (or Stung, as it were as one poor contributor came upon the receiving end for admitting the possession of a certain article of not such small consequence, it seems )
but hey, let’s consider interpreting the name of this forum (“noise”) more universally (and one’ll be forgiven ;D)… regarding
marathon performances, that of Fushitsusha
, for duration must compete with La Monte Young’s “Well-Tuned Piano” (1964 - ∞)[without knowing what its latest revision clocks-in at] disregarding Wagner(ian) opera-cycles (Hermann Nitsch(?)), and Nancarrow piano rolls, etc., it is perhaps of interest, to those across the Atlantic, that a live première performance (of a single free-standing solo work) shall take place in June, being that of Glaswegian homeboy, Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji  (of “Opus Clavicembalisticum” fame) 2nd  Organ Symphony (1929) all 7 hours of it!    Not your average Charlemagne Palestine / drone  recital…?

Oh, and re.
...Haino will be playing with Yoshio Hayakawa of the Jacks....
  ... i'd like to declare 8) x ∞ !!!!!

i think "Marianne" was also covered  on a box set (compilation)
of a collaboration with John Zorn as well).

From this photo the performance for the archivecd box was the night before, 12.13.03.

I'd be interested in any of those shows if anyone has links to or copies of them...

On this archivecd topic, there's an interview with Scott Slimm who runs the label on this blog: http://hammersmashedjazz.blogspot.com/2009/03/interview-with-scott-slimm-from-archive.html

Imagine if this had happened...!

Quote from: scott slimm
I initially pitched Haino on doing a CD subscription series of releases [of unreleased live performances] over the course of a year. ... he declined.

The idea makes me weak at the knees.

The seven-hour concert must've lasted till the following morning (Sunday 14th Dec.) presumably it's the same event - Haino wouldn't do that too often, do you think/know?
Well, it is listed here (has for years): http://www.geocities.com/hiawatha_cdr_trading/   alas, there's no reply from the Humming Bird.... :-\

I would like to do a Haino release of scale, but probably not that particular material.
material....  has second thoughts as to the standard of the performance?...... Indeed,  i'll just have sour grapes then! Can't bear to think about it anymore  :'(

The all-night Fushitsusha show in December at Hosei University was an annual fixture in Haino's calendar, through the eighties (not quite sure when it began), nineties and beyond. I attended a couple of times when I was living in Japan in the mid 90s. From memory, the shows would generally start around 10pm or 11pm and run through till the time of the first trains the next morning, till 5am or 6am. In later years, I remember them doing shows that would start at 2pm and go through till 11pm. The audience would wander in and out, going out for cigarette/refreshment breaks, but the band were generally on stage for the duration.
Haino still does a couple of all-night shows each year, more often solo now.

The Haino x Rallizes show was a great night!
Doronco even started playing his bass with a water bottle..
I'd like to give the recording to a friend of mine who couldn't make it, does anyone know where to find it?

Thanks very much for the links. They're great to see, even if I can't really understand.
